Ramping up production efforts and paving the way to bringing Tesla Motors out of the red, Tesla began delivery of the Roadster 2.5 Base electric sports car in 2010. With improvements to seating comfort, reductions in road noise, and tweaks to motor engineering, the Roadster 2.5 Base model came with a similar range to the original Roadster but with a higher torque of 280 lb-ft. Very few exterior changes were made to the lengthened Lotus Body, with the only noticeable enhancements including modifications to the rear diffuser and front grille. The same 17” Black Forged Wheels remained standard on the Base model, and suspension was still on the stiff side. Regardless, the Roadster 2.5 Base was a solid offering in the production sports car arena, and public sightings of the Roadster in action were becoming more common by the end of the year.
The Roadster 2.5 Base saw the same exterior paint selection as previous Roadsters, with colors ranging from the very bold to the somewhat conservative. Aside from classics in Arctic White and Jet Black (or the shimmery Obsidian Black Metallic), the Roadster 2.5 Base came in three blues (Glacier Blue, Twilight Blue, and Electric Blue), two reds (Fusion Red and Radiant Red), two grays (Thunder Gray and Sterling Silver), and a few supercar brights (Very Orange, Bright Yellow Metallic, and Racing Green).
Leather seating and a customizable color accent scheme on the Roadster comprised the majority of the few notable non-tech features of the interior. Cream, Beige, Black, Dark or Light Gray, Red, Orange, Saddle, or Yellow interior accenting lent an extra layer of exclusivity to the Roadster, while the heated premium leather seats and added lumbar support kept the interior in line with traditional luxury price point comfort.
While Autopilot has been a key feature in many of Tesla’s vehicle offerings over the years, the technology had not yet been developed for first generation Roadsters such as the 2.5 Base. As such, the Roadster 2.5 Base model did not come with hardware capability for future Autopilot technology.
