Tesla’s original production car, the P1 Roadster, was finalized and rolled out to the public in 2008, famously delivering the very first car to Elon Musk himself (he has since strapped that one to a rocket heading for Mars). Originally built into the chassis of a Lotus Elise, the P1 Roadster set EV records with its 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds. With its novel lithium ion battery pack, the P1 Roadster attained a stunning driving range of 244 miles per charge, the first electric to pass the 200 mile range mark.
As an incentive for enthusiasts who wanted to show off their investment into the new Tesla technology and for sports car enthusiasts that just wanted to turn heads, a bright and wild set of paint colors were available for the P1. Some epicly and others humorously named, these colors included Very Orange, Arctic White, Obsidian Black Metallic, Brilliant Yellow Metallic, Glacier Blue Metallic, Racing Green, Radiant Red, Thunder Gray, Sterling Silver, Twilight Blue Metallic, Electric Blue, Fusion Red, and Jet Black. The sporty forged Wheels and sleek Lotus Elise body played well with all of these colors, though comparatively few were actually made in the early days of Tesla production.
Interior selection on the P1 Roadster included seating materials in plush Microfiber or premium Leather. Color customization for the interior of the vehicle were offered in Dark Gray
Light Gray, Beige, Cream, Black, Orange, Red, Saddle, and Yellow. Originally, comfort of the seating in the P1 was questionable; after experiencing his own ride, Elon called for a redesign of the seating, implemented in later productions.
As Tesla had not yet formed the technology for Autopilot, no first generation Tesla Roadsters were equipped with hardware capability for Autopilot programming.
