After announcing the redesign of the Model X drivetrain in 2019, Tesla began offering the Model X Long Range AWD, set to replace the Model X 100D later that year. With improvements to motor magnet construction and other modifications that tweaked efficiency without changing battery size, the Model X Long Range was capable of up to 325 miles per charge of the 100 kWh lithium ion battery pack. Additional improvements to suspension smoothed the ride through software-controlled, real-time adjustments for road condition and driver habits, giving the Model X Long Range an even better driving experience for the longer road trip time it now commanded.
The Model X Long Range AWD came equipped with Autopilot, Tesla’s drivers assistance software, now being offered standard. Full Self Driving software was still offered as an upgrade and included notable features such as Summon, Autopark, and Auto Lane Change. Hardware configurations for Autopilot on the Model X Long Range have included AP2.5 and AP3.
With flat folding rear and middle seats (with the exception of the captain’s chair middle row configuration), cargo room in the Long Range was exceptional for an SUV, making up for the loss of storage rack space on the roof of the car thanks to the Model X’s signature Falcon Wing rear door assembly. The interior of the Model X Long Range was comfortable and spacious, with an incredible view enabled by the massive windshield and no-fuss cabin features. Interior color schemes in Black and White, Cream, and All Black complemented Dash design options in Wood (Oak, Figured or Dark Ash, Matte or Glossy Obeche, and Lace), Carbon Fiber, and Piano Black. Seating materials included luxury Leather, comfortable Multi-Pattern Textiles, and easy care synthetic Vegan Leather.
Exterior aesthetics could be customized through Wheel choice and paint color. The 19” Wheel design in Silver Cyclone was preferred by drivers looking for a thicker tire and better durability, while the 20” Wheel, standard in the Silver Slipstream Design, offered better grip and steering. Further customization to the 20” Wheel included designs in Two Tone Slipstream, Silver Helix, and Sonic Carbon. The performance 22” Wheel, with a tradeoff of efficiency for superior cornering ability and extra grip, was available in either an Onyx Black or Silver Turbine design.
Paints that coordinated with these designs were available in only five colors: Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Solid Black, Red Multi-Coat, and Pearl White Multi-Coat.
