Replacing the 75D as the base model for Tesla’s Model X halfway through 2016 and only offered for a short time, the Model X 60D retained the same 75 kWh lithium ion battery pack as the 75D but was software-locked in capacity. Effectively, this gave the 60D a shorter range, about 200 miles per charge, with the option to unlock extra battery capacity in the future. In other ways, the Model X 60D was the same vehicle as the 75D but at a reduced cost, with 0 to 60 acceleration in 6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph, nearly mirroring performance times of the 75 trim.
For Tesla’s Autopilot driver assistance program, the 60D was hardware capable with configurations for AP1 or AP2. Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) and Full Self Driving (FSD) software did not come standard and were available as add-ons for purchase. Though not a true autonomous technology, some features of Autopilot in these configurations could include options such as Summon, Autopark, and Navigate.
The all wheel drive Model X 60D came with three different wheel size options: the 19”, 20” and 22”. The standard 20” wheels in the Silver Slipstream design came standard on the Model X, offering decent grip and handling and customizable with designs Helix (also in Silver) and Sonic Carbon. 19” wheels in the Cyclone design offered slight increases in energy efficiency over the 20”, while the 22” Turbine wheels (in Silver or Onyx Black) offered better driving performance at the cost of a mild efficiency decrease.
Exterior paints for the Model X had the widest selection in the year the 60D was offered. Classic colors in Solid Black, Solid White, Signature Red (in very limited quantities), Red Multi-Coat, and Pearl White Multi-Coat complemented the sleek profile of the Model X. Metallics in Midnight Silver, Deep Blue, Silver, Obsidian Black, and Titanium added a little extra flair without straying too far from the classic, minimalist look.
The massive windshield on the 60D allowed the driver an incredible increase in visibility and a driving experience that let the interior of the car feel more connected to the outside. With a roomy, luxury-car feel, the inside of the Model X 60D came in All Black, Tan, or Ultra White, coordinating well with seating options in Multi-Pattern Textile, Nappa Leather, or synthetic Vegan Leather. Dash options included the elegant Wood designs (in Glossy and Matte Obeche, Dark and Figured Ash, and Lace), sporty Carbon Fiber design, or minimalist Piano Black design.
