As Tesla’s top offering of the Model 3, the Model 3 Performance sport sedan shot out of the gate in 2019 with a 0 to 60 acceleration time of just 4 seconds. Software updates and subsequent years brought those times down even lower, and by 2021 the Model 3 Performance boasted a jarring launch rate of 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.
Tuned for speed and priced for the mid-range luxury sedan buyer, the Model 3 Performance was nimble through the commute and out on the track. Still maintaining a 310 mile driving range on a single charge (though that number changed dramatically depending on how the Model 3 was driven), the Model 3 Performance remained a top contender for driving experience and road trip ability in all-electric vehicles of its class.
Autopilot came in hardware configurations AP2.5 and AP3 during the Model 3 Performance’s manufacture, but Tesla has offered upgrades to AP3 from AP2.5 in some cases. The upgrade gave all Model 3s the potential to see full features from the Autopilot programming packages; for the Model 3 Performance, Autopilot came standard with the option to upgrade to the more powerful Full Self Driving level of the software. Features of the programming included Summon, Autopark, Auto Lane Change, and, for Full Self Driving vehicles, better traffic control recognition and future promises of autonomous driving.
The exterior of the Model 3 Performance was customizable through the paint color and the Wheel selection. The color palette came in five conservative hues: Pearl White Multi-Coat, Red Multi-Coat, Deep Blue Metallic, Midnight Silver Metallic, and Solid Black. Initially, only two Wheel options were available: the efficient 18” Aero design or the performance-centered 19” Sport design, but later options included a 20” Überturbine design.
Inside the Model 3, color options included the All Black interior with wood trim or the Black and White interior. Standard seating material was a synthetic Vegan Leather, and the Driver and front passenger seats were heated. Though the interior was minimalistic and nearly all of the controls accessed through a single, 15” Touchscreen Control Panel, the solid glass roof of the Model 3 pulled visual focus off the inside of the vehicle and encouraged passengers to watch the world go by (often, very quickly).
