The long-awaited base price vehicle of the Tesla Model 3 fleet, the Model 3 Standard RWD finally began delivery in 2019. A replacement for the interim Mid Range RWD, the Standard RWD came equipped with a permanent magnet rear motor, enabling rapid 0 – 60 mph acceleration in 5.6 seconds. However, the Standard Range RWD was taken off-menu and only available through directly contacting a Tesla representative only a few weeks after initially being open for orders. As with a few other members of the Tesla fleet, the Standard Range was now manufactured as a software-limited Standard Range Plus, with extra capabilities that could be unlocked after purchase.
The interior of the Model 3 Standard Range was initially available to order with options for a cloth cabin, but a change in manufacturing meant that most were produced with synthetic Vegan Leather seating. Interior color schemes included Black and White or All Black, coordinating well with the stark interior and the cabin’s focal point: a streamlined control system consisting almost exclusively of the 15” touchscreen control panel.
Autopilot for the Model 3 Standard Range was available for an additional fee, and included features such as Autosteer, Summon, and Auto Lane Change. Full Self Driving, with expanded features such as Navigate and Traffic Light Control, was also available as an add-on. Hardware configurations possibly included AP2.5 and AP3, though Tesla has offered an AP3 hardware upgrade for all AP2.5 configurations to open up further Full Self Driving capabilities.
The outside of the Model 3 was designed with the same sleek, aerodynamic lines as the Model S but on a smaller scale. Exterior paints on the Model 3 came in a limited, conservative palette that included Solid Black, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Red Multi-Coat, Deep Blue Metallic, and Midnight Silver Metallic. Wheel options came in either the 18” Aero base design for the best efficiency and a smoother, quieter ride, or in a more open 19” Sport design for extra cornering and grip.
