First offered in 2015, Tesla’s new 90 kWh lithium ion battery option was packed into the chassis of a rear wheel drive base model, the Model S 90. With a 0 to 60 mph acceleration of just 3.8 seconds, the Model S 90 was a step up from the base Model S 85 trim line, and the extra battery capacity enabled a range increase up to 265 miles per charge. The 90 trim line replaced the 85 in 2017 and was discontinued itself in 2018.
Autopilot, now available for all Tesla Model S vehicles built after 2014, could be installed as Version 1.0 in 2015 and 2016, and additionally in Version 2.0 in 2016. Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self Driving software could be added through the vehicles manufacturing years 2016-2017 for Autopilot 2.0 and 2.5 (2017).
Interiors for the Model S 90 followed the minimalist trend of Tan, All Black, or Gray until 2017 when Gray was replaced with the one-year option of Ultra White. Seating options of Nappa Leather, Vegan Leather, and Multi-Pattern Textile stayed steady, though Vegan Leather wasn’t introduced until 2016. The Dash options in sleek Piano Black, elegant Wood designs (Glossy and Matte Obeche, Lace, and Dark and Figured Ash), and modern Carbon Fiber can be found in pre-owned Tesla Model S 90s throughout the years of their manufacture.
The exterior of the Model S 90 changed little from its predecessors, even losing paint color options as years progressed. Metallics in Blue and Gray were only available in the year 2015, while Solid White and Titanium dropped after 2016. Solid Black, Metallics in Obsidian Black, Midnight Silver, Deep Blue, and Silver, as well as Multi-Coat paint in Red and Pearl White, were available through all Model S 90 years.
If the Tesla Model S 90’s base 19” wheels weren’t enough to satisfy, buyers of the 90 could choose from other 19” options in Slipstream (available in Silver or Sonic Carbon), Cyclone, and Tempest designs. Performance 21” wheel designs could also be had in Arachnid (Black or Silver), Turbine (Silver or Gray), and Twin Turbine designs (Silver or Sonic Carbon).
